Global Technology Research and Development Centre Stuttgart
A high-performance research centre where advanced laboratories and collaborative innovation converge.
This modern Research and Development Centre is a purpose-built facility that brings together specialist laboratory environments with welcoming, people-focused spaces. Set within a building designed by Bodamer Faber, the project combines advanced research functions with a reception, vibrant café, and flexible co-working areas. Located in a region renowned for its strong technology talent and panoramic views of the Swabian Alb, the building maximises natural daylight through a central atrium and provides generous access to terraces and a rooftop, encouraging informal interaction, wellbeing, and moments of pause throughout the day.
The interior design responds directly to the base-build architecture, drawing inspiration from its rhythmic window framing and fluid façade that reveals the building’s public levels. This relationship informed the concept of Framed Motion, where key destinations are clearly articulated, while movement between spaces is animated through layered materials, detail, and colour. Feature palettes, inspired by Tübingen’s architectural character and seasonal landscape, subtly guide users and define spaces.
Graphic and artistic interventions reference scientific and natural phenomena, from mid-century graph structures to LiDAR scans, Fibonacci sequences, and nebula imagery, embedding storytelling throughout the interior. Despite challenges like budget constraints, complex landlord coordination, and high local workplace standards, the result is a flexible, cohesive environment that balances technical precision with warmth, collaboration, and community.
A light-filled research centre that balances specialist laboratories with welcoming, community-oriented workplace spaces.
