A contemporary office design features an open layout with a striking mix of casual seating areas and collaborative workspaces. Curved blue couches and light wood tables create an inviting atmosphere. Industrial elements like exposed ductwork and sleek light fixtures enhance a modern aesthetic, promoting both functionality and comfort.

HLW partnered with a leading consumer goods client to deliver their new office at One Station Hill in Reading, reimagining the company’s UK workplace as a future-forward hub aligned with evolving workstyles. Building upon the company’s Workplace Guidelines, the design delivers a diverse ecosystem of alternative work settings that support focus, teamwork, and social interaction.

The design is grounded in one of the company’s guiding principles, “seed to smile,” honouring the natural and agricultural foundations of its food and beverage supply chain. Embracing this ethos, the space is thoughtfully pared back to its most authentic expression—celebrating exposed ceilings, honest, natural materials, and a color palette that seamlessly reflects and reinforces the company’s identity. A sculptural feature stair connects the two floors as both circulation and social catalyst, supporting ease of movement between flexible workzones. A Chef’s Table brings additional opportunities for social interaction, hosting culinary pop-ups that celebrate and showcase the company’s food credentials. A hand-painted mural by local artist Kev Munday further enriches the space with creativity and local identity.

Pursuing WELL Platinum, the workplace demonstrates exceptional performance in health and wellbeing, including outstanding air and water quality, biophilic design integration, and a strong connection to nature. The project is also pursuing BREEAM Outstanding for Interiors, reflecting leadership in energy efficiency, responsible materials selection, waste reduction, and environmental management. Together, these certifications align high-performance interiors with the client’s broader ESG and climate ambitions—delivering a workplace that is as resilient and responsible as it is dynamic and inspiring.
