A First Look Inside Google’s Gradient Canvas Exhibition

Jeffrey Wong (right), Job Captain from HLW’s New York HQ, recently had the opportunity to visit the Google Gradient Canvas exhibition within Gradient Canopy in Mountain View, an experience that reflects the culmination of a deeply collaborative and immersive design effort. The visit was especially meaningful, as Jeffrey spent over a year collaborating closely with Google, artists, and fabrication teams to help bring this exhibition to life.
As part of HLW’s long-standing relationship with Google, the exhibition was conceived as a gallery embedded within the architectural fabric of the campus, transforming a walkway into a dynamic platform for exploring the evolving relationships between people, nature, and machines. The works present a range of installations, from digital and analog interpretations of AI-generated data to immersive experiences that invite curiosity, dialogue, and engagement.

HLW played a critical role in translating each artistic vision into built form, navigating complex technical and structural fabrications while ensuring seamless integration with the building’s architecture. From mirrored ceilings and monumental frames to interactive projections mapped onto sculptural surfaces, each installation contributes to a layered and immersive visual experience that blurs the boundaries between art, technology, and the built environment.

Seeing the exhibition fully realized marks a meaningful milestone in bringing this dynamic and inspiring environment to life. From takeoff to stepping into the exhibition itself, Jeffrey documented moments throughout the journey, capturing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the collaboration, innovation, and creativity that shaped the experience (check out Jeffrey’s reel on Instagram below).
Led by Cristen Colantoni and Joshua Vizzi, HLW’s collaboration with Google and project partners represents a shared commitment to creating spaces that inspire exploration and connection. Gradient Canvas stands as an immersive environment where architecture becomes a framework for storytelling, innovation, and discovery.
