Google’s Gradient Canopy office is the latest addition to its Mountain View headquarters and integrates innovative and biophilic designs. The interior scheme prioritizes the human experience with highly flexible workspaces. HLW developed an environment where spaces can adapt easily to meet the needs of the teams where spaces can be easily transformed with zero waste since the same materials can be reused in new configurations.

The building has achieved the Living Building Challenge Materials Petal Certification and LEED-NC v4 Platinum certification. As of August 2023, we diverted more than 90% of construction waste from landfills through sorting waste materials onsite, which helps recycle materials that might otherwise go to landfills.

One of the largest buildings to attain the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) Living Building Challenge (LBC) Materials Petal Certification.

Google Gradient Canvas Corridor

HLW collaborated closely with Google, artists, and fabrication teams over the course of a year to bring the Gradient Canvas exhibition to life within Gradient Canopy. Designed as a gallery embedded within the architectural fabric of the campus, the installation transforms the space into a dynamic platform for exploring the co-evolving relationships between people, nature, and machines.

The exhibition presents a diverse range of works, from digital and analog interpretations of AI-generated data to immersive installations that reflect the evolving role of artificial intelligence. HLW played a critical role in translating each artistic vision into built form, navigating complex technical and structural challenges while ensuring seamless integration with the building’s architecture. From suspended mirrored ceilings and monumental aluminum frames to interactive projections mapped onto sculptural surfaces, each installation contributes to a layered and engaging visual experience.

As part of a long-standing partnership, the exhibition result is a richly immersive environment where art, technology, and architecture converge, creating a space that inspires curiosity, dialogue, and innovation.
