Modern office space features an inviting kitchen area with a curved bar made of textured terracotta tiles. A professional man works at the bar, while a woman in a sleek black dress uses the refrigerator. Warm wood cabinetry contrasts with a striking black and white backsplash, enhancing the contemporary aesthetic.

HLW partnered with Wedbush over a two-year strategic planning process to evaluate options for the firm’s future workplace. As the company considered either renovating its existing offices or relocating, the goal was to right-size the footprint while creating a more efficient, collaborative environment aligned with evolving workstyles. Through detailed programming and site studies across Downtown Los Angeles, the team ultimately selected a new suburban strategy, establishing two offices outside the city center. The first completed location occupies the top two floors of the Pasarroyo campus in Pasadena.

Visitors arrive on the lower level into an open reception space anchored by conferencing areas and a hospitality-inspired coffee bar. A sculptural feature stair connects to the penthouse level above, where a café and lounge open directly onto a wraparound terrace overlooking the surrounding landscape.

To maximize daylight and sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains, the workplace was planned with offices positioned toward the interior and open work areas along the perimeter. A grounded material palette of deeper tones—accented with russet, tan, and plum hues inspired by the surrounding foliage—creates a warm, sophisticated atmosphere that complements the dramatic natural setting.
